Our Competitions

Our History

Oakland University has had a long history with SAE International’s Collegiate Design Series. We began competing in the Super Mileage competition where we had much success; 1st -1978, 2nd –1991 and 3rd -1994. In the mid ‘90’s our chapter made the switch to the Formula SAE competition. After a few attempts at the competition, the year 2003 became a breakthrough year as Oakland University placed 13th of 130 teams and set the record for best improvement year to year of any team after placing 123rd in 2002 for a jump of 110 positions! Over the past year our team has grown from less than ten students to more than forty. With this increase in personnel, our rank overall in Formula competition went from 69th in 2009 to 36th in 2010. We will be working hard this season to continue climbing the ranks as we endeavor on our 2011 entrant: FCXI

Everyone on the Grizzlies Racing team has a purpose when they are incepted into our organization. Our team consists of students in majors varying from graduate level electrical engineers to undergraduate business. All of the designing, building, testing, and racing is done completely by Oakland University students.

Grizzlies Racing competes each year against 120 universities from across the globe. The goal that drives us is learning. It truly is the most important part of what we do and each task down to the lugnut is an opportunity for just that. However that’s not the only thing we’re about, did we mention how much fun racecars can be?!
